NEWS................ PRINTS................ ABOUT................ |
NEWS: January 2012 Just finished a full-page illustration for art director SooJin Buzelli at PlanSponsor magazine. With a history of using some of the best artists out there, this was a thrill. I'll post it once the issue is out, in February....And here's a new one just published in the new issue of Uppercase magazine. NEWS: December 2011 I've started a BLOG. Follow me there if you're interested in the story and process behind my most current work. I plan to make it a kind of visual journal for the most current projects on my desk. For example: my entry into The New Yorker's "Eustace Tilley" competition. You can see more about it there.
November 2011 2 new pieces for ELLE MAGAZINE (Canada). I illustrated an article entitled "Girl Crazy: Women Who Love Unicorns & Lollies". Amazing how I got this wonderful assignment: ELLE art director, Beatriz Juarez saw a nice comment about my work from artist Olaf Hajek - and she tracked me down. I have long been a fan of Olaf's, now only more so! : ) NOVEMBER NEWS, CONT.....I have an agent. I'm thrilled to say, I'm now represented by GARANCE. It's a particular honor to be among such a list of talented and accomplished artists. September 2011 A new series of personal pieces I worked on over this summer. The paper, charcoal, pastels and paint decided to take a Moroccan theme, completely of their own free will. I simply went along with it. Until I post it on my site, please do view the full series here:
NEWS: Summer 2011 Here are a few new pieces you'll find in my Gallery.
Spring 2011 This website has been updated. The NEWS is newer, the GALLERY is refreshed, there's a new section: PROCESS, for some insight into how I work. Would love to hear your feedback.
.................................... Just did a COVER and inside spread for the beautiful magazine UPPERCASE. Issue #9. This was a dream assignment. Uppercase was recently nominated as a "Magazine of the Year" by the Society of Publication Designers for an excellent reason - it's top-notch design. If you love excellent design, you likely already know it, but if not, you are in for an intelligent, visual treat. Uppercase is based in Alberta, Canada.
My spread in the beautifully designed sourcebook Work/Life, a collection of wonderful artists.
A design firm in Germany, SIMON & GOETZ DESIGN called on me to do 2 illustrations for a magazine published by Sal Oppenheim, the largest private bank in Europe. Here is one of them. I participated in a gallery show in San Fran's famed RARE DEVICE. The theme was Aesop's Fables, and I did "The Goat & the Vine". Here's a detail of it. It shows a lot of the monoprint techniques I was experimenting with.
Cover illustration for an arts and literature newspaper published in Florida, called Studio Review:
A CD cover for singer songwriter, Chuck Leger, entitled American Dream.
A few of my pieces were included in this book (published in the UK): ALPHABETS, A MISCELLANY OF LETTERS. "The new book from David Sacks combines eye candy, font fetishism, and sociological etymology in a lavishly illustrated love letter to the modern A-to-Z".
........................................................ 2010: THREE of my pieces have been selected in The Society of Illustrator's 52nd Competition AND American Illustration (AI-AP):
Over the winter, I immersed myself in the crazy, messy, frustrating, wonderful art of silkscreening. I loved everything about it. It does take remarkable patience and skill to achieve results, and I have huge respect for those who are masters in any print-making techniques. I hope to do more of it.....
There are always some experiments going on here in my studio....bits and pieces seem to find their way into my work one way or another.
Mounted on wood and varnished: Not the biggest fan of frames, but I'm liking this situation.
............................................................. July 1, 2009 So excited to have been featured and interviewed on Amy Ng's insightful and popular illustration blog "Pikaland."
May 20, 2009 Thank you to Ez of the blog Creature Comforts for featuring my work this week. May 15, 2009 My prints are now also being sold through Velocity Art and Design, a gallery and design shop based in Seattle.
My assistant, Marcello Marceau Mastroianni Bonaparte Von Flughelhorn Duchamp della Lichtenstien Jones. .................. Too my delight and amazement, I've gotten far too many blog features to mention here. I'm particularly gratified that such a huge number of them are international: Turkey, the Netherlands....and even Oklahoma. More news is likely to come soon, as news tends to do....I sincerely appreciate your visit.
